To My Grandma

Authorial book

Design and concept: Štěpánka Bláhovcová
Realised: 2006

A story of a great love for which death does not equal the end. In my story lovers are united again.

My eighty-year old grandmother lost her husband seven years ago. When he died, she wanted to follow him and leave this world as well. She became apathetic, nothing could attract her attention. Not long afterwards she became seriously ill. Bleeding, she was taken to the emergency where an advanced stage of colon cancer was diagnosed. Finally she was only inches away from the moment of death.
“When I felt the worst, my Toník came and said to me: Not yet, Boženka, it is not the right time yet,” our Grandma said to us when she returned from the hospital
She has found a motivation to live again, for her birthday she wanted to jump with a parachute, rather we bought for her a trip to London.

The folding-picture book is compiled from parts of love letters writen by Toník to Boženka before their wedding and from their pictures.
